Hon. Mrs. Shukria Barakzai

Mrs. Shukria Barakzai is Chairwomen of Defence Committee of the Afghan National Assembly. A long time campaigner and advocate for women’s rights, Mrs. Barakzai first took a seat in the National Assembly in 2005. Prior to her political Career Mrs. Barakzai worked as a journalist, and was on the founding committee of the Female Journalists Union of Afghanistan. Mrs. Barazai continues to publish on a range of issues and holds the Chief Editor position on the weekly publication Women’s Mirror.

Mrs. Barakzai has won a number of international and national awards for her work on women’s rights and civil society promotion. Mrs Barakzai has also had work published in Dari, Pashto and English.
