SIMOTAN IV - 20-23 May 2009

The Portuguese Atlantic Committee and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of the Technical University of Lisbon have the immense pleasure of inviting participants to the North Atlantic Council simulation, which will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, 20-23 May 20 2009.
The purpose of this exercise is to simulate an emergency meeting of the North Atlantic Council, in response to an international crisis. NATO member states will have to agree upon a crisis management operation. The escalation of tension will lead to a scenario where several Alliance Members will have to defend their sometimes conflicting interests and opposing views on how to maintain the international order. The management of such a crisis will involve the discussion of topics like the right of self-defence and the cooperation framework among and within different international actors. Participants will have a limited period of time for reaching a consensus, translated into a common declaration. The specificities of the crisis scenario and the composition of the teams will only be revealed to the participants at the beginning of the simulation exercise.
Participants will be integrated in teams that will represent the 28 Alliance member states, NATO international staff, NGOs and international media representatives.
Please contact the Portuguese Atlantic Committee directly for more details.
