Atlantic Treaty Association

Association du Traité Atlantique

Following the success of the last two Crisis Management Simulations (CMS and CMS II), the Atlantic Treaty Association in cooperation with the NATO Public Diplomacy Division, and Europäische Akademie in Otzenhausen has the distinct pleasure of inviting 15 YATA/ATA Youth members to attend the CMS III, held in Otzenhausen at the Europäische Akademie, from July 1st - 6th, 2008.

ATA/YATA Chapters are to work in cohesion in finding a candidate. The selection of candidates will be made on a first come first serve basis. Please note that participation is limited to one nominee per national chapter.

Programme Details

The scenario for the simulation will be the current state of affairs in Afghanistan.

This is a unique opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of the important and dynamic relationship between international organization, state actors, regional actors, and local actors in a crisis situation. This simulation will make use of few standardized procedures – allowing for a natural and unobstructed process in which participants will analyze the diplomatic, military and economic aspects of the situation in Afghanistan.

The CMS III will expose its participants to the art of negotiation in the context of the global security system. As such, aspects of strategy and political tactics will be essential in deciding the outcome of the scenario.

In addition to the 15 YATA/ATA Youth participants, the event will gather 15 students from Canada, as well as nearly 40 students from within Germany.

Services Included

As a result of the generous support of the NATO Public Diplomacy Division, participant’s room and board expenses are entirely subsidized. (Arrival: Tuesday, July 1st – Departure: Sunday, July 6th (after breakfast). There will also be a travel subsidy (amount tbd).
