Rastislav Káčer was elected the president and chairman of the Executive Board of the Slovak Atlantic Commission (SAC) in July 2008 after a five year term in Washington DC as the ambassador of the Slovak Republic to the USA. Prior to this engagement, he worked for 16 years on various positions for the Slovak government.
He started his career as a political analyst of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he gradually reached the position of the head of the analytical section. In the years 1994 – 1998, he worked at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels. After returning from Brussels, he became the head of the section of political planning and director general for security policy and multilateral relations at the Ministry. In 2001, he became the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, where he had responsibility for negotiations and the accession process of Slovakia to NATO. He is a widely recognised expert on domestic policy of the USA, transatlantic relations, as well as issues concerning security and defence. In September 2008 he joined the FIPRA Slovakia consultancy group, where he currently holds the position of Chairman. He oversees its tasks related to strategic relations of the government with foreign investors, governments and international institutions. In addition, he works as a special advisor to its strategic policy and mediation team. He possesses fluent command of Slovak, English, French and Russian.
