Jean-Paul R. Preumont was elected Treasurer of the Atlantic Treaty Association in May 2011. Before taking on this function, he was Director of the Centre for studies (1976 - 1991) and Vice-President (1991 – 2011) of the Euro-Atlantic Association of Belgium. Since 2003, he is also Chairman of the Jury of the Euro-Atlantic Award of the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

At professional level, he is currently in charge of the co-ordination of industrial relations, social and human resources matters of the Community of European Railways and Infrastructure Companies which covers 79 companies in the European Union, EFTA and candidate countries. He has a wide experience in the railway business and is, at the same time, Chief Advisor at the International Affairs Department of the Belgian National Railways. Furthermore, he worked as consultant in organisation and human resources in many countries of Europe and Africa

He is also Past European President of the European Association of Railway Personnel (International NGO) and Lieutenant Colonel in the military reserve.
