Mr. Troels Frøling was elected Secretary General of the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA) in November, 2003. Before taking on this function, and during the course of his career, Mr. Frøling has held many distinguished positions.
They include: Secretary General of the Danish Atlantic Treaty Association (concurrent), Head of Division in the Danish Ministry of Defense (1997-2000), Director Chief of Defense Security Policy (1993-1997), Vice-President of the Atlantic Treaty Association (1997-2000), Chief Advisor for Denmark’s Chief of Defense (CHOD) and Associate Professor at the Royal Danish Defense Academy (1990-1993), Head of Section at the Danish Ministry of Defense (1986-1990), Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen’s Danish International Study Program (1984-1992), NATO Defense College in Rome (1983-1984), Analyst and subsequently Senior Analyst for the Danish Ministry of Defense (1978-1986), and Producer for Danish radio and television.
Mr. Frøling holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and Russian from the University of Copenhagen. He is a graduate of the NATO Defense College and an Officer in the Danish Reserve (Air Force). In addition, he is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Study, sits on the board of the Danish Foreign Policy Society, and is a regular guest lecturer in his native Denmark, as well as in Sweden and Estonia.
Some of the international projects which Mr. Frøling has spearheaded in recent years include: The Baltic Initiative on Public Opinion, Awareness Building and Network Partnerships in relation to NATO Membership of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (2001 – 2003), the Public Debate and Informed Public Opinion in Russia on New Challenges to Democracy and Security in the Northern Part of Europe (May 2003 – 2005), and the Network on Common Security in Central and South Eastern Europe - Balkan Mosaic (2004-2007).
